The Animas Watershed Partnership(AWP) brings local interests together to discuss and find ways to improve water quality in the lower Animas River Basin. The mission of the AWP is to protect and improve the quality of water resources in the Animas Watershed. The full AWP is a diverse, grassroots group of individuals from Colorado, New Mexico, the Southern Ute Tribe, and governmental agency representatives – in short, anyone interested in collaborating across boundaries toward the protection and improvement of water resources in the Animas Watershed.

One of the main objectives of this CAG is to disseminate information about activities at the Bonita Peak Mining District site to the community and to provide community input back to EPA. Related to that objective, this CAG will utilize local expertise in reviewing and commenting on technical documents associated with the site. Characterization and min remediation in the upper Animas River Basin began twenty-five years before it was listed for Superfund in 2016, and the community already possesses a great deal of data, knowledge, and experience regarding the site.

Cloudy Ridge Productions, a Durango, Colorado based non-profit production company, creates unique, timely and engaging films and documentaries to show how important the ancient civilizations of the southwestern United States are and that it is still possible to protect what little of this early culture is left. Cloudy Ridge Production uses time-lapse photography, aerial cinematography, and interviews with people intimately involved in trying to save these disappearing places to convey a message of preservation. A message that will show both the positive and negative aspects of our present civilization’s relationship with this ancient culture and why it’s in our best interest to protect what is left of these places. The documentaries and video clips that we produce will also encourage people to help save these important places by respecting them and sharing in the stewardship of our cultural history. Division 7 administers all water resources of the San Juan and Dolores River Basins. Their staff administers water rights for water users, consults on water court cases, measures water flow, inspects dams to determine sage water storage levels, issue well permits, and maintains gaging stations and water records within these basins. Division 7 is also responsible for Compact compliance under the Animas-La Plata Project, La Plata River, and Upper Colorado River Basin Compacts, and for the interstate deliveries through the San Juan-Chama Project.

Durango Mountain Camp (DMC) provides an intensive 5 1/2 week language immersion program for diagnosed dyslexic students ages 11-16 (day campers 7-16). DMCs highly personalize academic program provides an hour daily of the following: One on one Orton-Gillingham based tutoring, individualized study hall, composition, and oral/silent reading. This immersion program builds a strong language foundation which allows students greater success when they return home to their normal academic environment. Many of these youngsters will progress through several grade levels in their language skills during the session.

This program provides educational classes, access to land, water, infrastructure (irrigation, harvest sheds, cooler and root cellar), and marketing assistance. Incubator farmers work together in the “incubator field” running independent businesses and sharing infrastructure and knowledge. Incubator farmers start with 1/16 to 1/8 acre plats their first year. The program’s mission is to offer an alternative point of entry for beginning farmers in the Four Corners region, providing them with access to support services that enable them to develop the skills necessary to succeed.

This organization promotes recycling activities in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma, and San Juan Counties. SJBRA partners with industrial, government, commercial and residential interests operating within the region to foster and share recycling experience and best management practices. They also provide information and assistance to all interested parties.
